My name is Ingrid Kesselaar – van Oorschot. I was born in the Netherlands and since 2020 I have the honour to live in a beautiful village called Arfeld (Bad Berleburg) I may call myself the proud owner of a cozy pub, “Gasthof zum Bahnhof”, and since November 2024 I also own a beautiful, spacious holiday home, “die Lambrie”
Even as a child I wanted to live in the mountains. At the end of every great holiday in a mountainous area, I was always extremely jealous of all those people who lived and worked there and were allowed to stay there forever, while I had to return to my daily worries in the flat Netherlands.
After years of dreaming and fantasizing about how it could be, the opportunity arose in 2019 to make my dreams come true. In August 2020, I took the big step to a permanently move to Germany with my husband Anton and our dog Daan. I wanted a guesthouse, but ended up in a village pub. In the middle of the period when Corona was spreading around the world, I openend my pub with much confidence. The Lockdown came 2 weeks later and put the world and all my plans on hold for 7 months. My guesthouse had to wait, but a postponement was not a cancellation.
We started the renovation in December 2023. The garage and upper floor had to become a holiday home. Eleven months later, my dream had become reality and I was proud to welcome my first guests.
Every day now feels like a holiday for me and the great thing is that now I am the one who is blessed to live and work in the mountains.
